Global steel output to expand by 100 million tonnes this year. World steel production will continue its inexorable rise in 2012 despite downbeat economic prospects, states MEPS (International) Ltd. in its latest issue of World Steel Outlook.
EU buyers are reluctant to place orders on the mills as concern over the current financial crisis is undermining business confidence. They believe that prices could go down even further and so are staying out of the market for now. Because demand is so mediocre, the output cuts that European producers have implemented so far have not had any positive effects on basis values. However, more are planned by several steelmakers.
The World Steel Association (worldsteel) today released its April 2011 short range outlook (SRO) for 2011 and 2012. worldsteel forecasts that apparent steel use will increase by 5.9% to 1,359 mmt in 2011, following 13.2% growth in 2010. In 2012, it is forecast that world steel demand will grow further by 6.0% to reach a new record of 1,441 mmt.
Einerseits sorgt der gegenüber dem Dollar schwache Euro dafür, dass die steigenden Rohstoffkosten noch mehr anziehen, weil deren Weltmarktpreise in Dollar gerechnet werden. Andererseits fänden durch die Euro-Schwäche Einfuhren kaum noch statt, weil selbst für traditionelle Billig-Stahlländer die Lieferung in Euro-Länder unattraktiv sei. Quelle: Stahl online
